Restore your body's natural balance

with Oriental Medicine

What is Oriental Medicine?

The fundamental concept of Oriental Medicine is the body's natural life force known as Qi. If this is flowing smoothly, the body is in balance and in good health. When the body is not in balance, ill health will arise. Two of the main branches of Oriental Medicine are acupuncture and herbal medicine.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, disposable needles into specific points of the body to influence the flow of Qi.

What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Chinese herbal medicine uses herbs to help restore the body's balance. Ailsa will formulate a concoction of various herbs specific to the client's individual needs.

How is a diagnosis made?

On your first visit, Ailsa will take a full history of past and current illnesses, including any medication you're taking. Ailsa will look at the tongue as it is considered a map of the body. It reflects the health of the client. She'll look at the colour and appearance of the tongue as well as the tongue coating. Ailsa will feel the pulse on both wrists noting its rate, rhythm and strength. She may also feel the abdomen and other areas of concern.

What conditions can Oriental Medicine help?

A wide range of conditions can be successfully treated. Among the more commonly treated disorders are:

Conventional medicine often has difficulty achieving successful results with chronic conditions. Oriental Medicine has a great deal to offer in this area.

Remember, the above is simply some of the most common conditions treated. If you suffer from an ailment not listed, Ailsa may still be able to help you.

Why are acupuncture and Chinese Herbs treatments sometimes given together?

Results can often be achieved much faster using acupuncture in conjunction with herbal medicine rather than using either acupuncture or chinese herbs alone.

How long before an improvement is seen?

The results that can be expected and the length of treatment required will depend on the severity of the condition, its duration and the general health of the client.

Any special considerations?

A client should never abandon their conventional medication or alter its dosage without the approval of their doctor.

Is any other advice given?

Your lifestyle has a great bearing on your health. Ailsa will give advice on eating habits, exercise, rest and any other areas which be having an impact on the client's well being.
