Improve your health with Chinese herbal medicine

How are Chinese Herbs taken?

The most effective way to release the herbs’ active ingredients is to boil the dried herbs until there is very little liquid left then drink the liquid.

The dried herbs can also be made into powders or granules which are then added to a little water and drunk. Herbs are also available in tincture form.

The benefits of using the above methods are that the prescriptions can be tailored for the individual client. A prescription can be made up of between 4 and 20 different herbs.

The first time you take the herbs you may not enjoy the experience! Many find the taste to be bitter and strong. You’ll get used to the taste - you may even come to like it!

How long before an improvement is seen?

The results that can be expected and the length of treatment required will depend on the severity of he condition, its duration and the general health of the client.

Any special considerations?

A client should never abandon their conventional medication or alter its dosage without the approval of their doctor.

How safe is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Chinese herbs are very safe and allergic type reactions and adverse side effects are rare. However, these herbs are powerful and you should only seek treatment from a fully trained herbalist such as Ailsa.

Ailsa is a member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine. The organisation is concerned about the threat to wild animals and plants due to the growth in demand for traditional medicines. It strongly condemns the illegal trade in endangered species and has a strict policy prohibiting the use of any type of endangered species by any of its members.

All herbs used by Ailsa come from suppliers that have been recommended by the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.
